On 24 October, Ambassador Zhang Ming met with Mr. Matej Zakonjsek, Head of Cabinet of Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc. The two sides exchanged views on China-EU cooperation in connectivity and civil aviation.

Ambassador Zhang said that the intensive high-level exchanges in recent months have given a boost to China-EU cooperation in various fields. At the 12th ASEM Summit held in Brussels last week, Premier Li Keqiang said that we need to promote interconnected development of Asia and Europe through enhanced connectivity. The Strategy for Connecting Europe and Asia, which was recently adopted by the EU, has much in common with the Belt and Road Initiative, offering a good basis for connectivity cooperation. China and the EU could also advance cooperation in the civil aviation sector and further study transport corridors, contributing to better connections between the two sides.

Mr. Zakonjsek stressed the importance that the EU places on connectivity, and expressed the EU’s readiness to enhance cooperation with China in such areas as civil aviation, in the context of the Strategy for Connecting Europe and Asia and the Belt and Road Initiative.
