Ambassador Zhang Ming Meets Secretary-General Jeppe Tranholm-Mikkelsen

On 14 November, Ambassador Zhang Ming met with Secretary-General Jeppe Tranholm-Mikkelsen of the Council of the European Union.

Ambassador Zhang said that China-EU relations have maintained a positive momentum this year, marked by the success of the 20th China-EU Summit, close exchanges at various levels across the board, and good progress in practical cooperation. China and the EU commit to upholding multilateralism and free trade, and keep close communication on such hotspot issues as Iran, speaking volumes about the global dimension of China-EU relations. China stands ready to work closely with the General Secretariat on the future high-level exchanges between the two sides, and to bring the bilateral relations to a new level.

Secretary-General Tranholm-Mikkelsen concurred with Ambassador Zhang by stressing the strong basis and great potential of the EU-China relations. Secretary-General Tranholm-Mikkelsen said that the EU and China have a shared interest in the rules-based international order, and that the EU is ready to work with China to improve the WTO and other international regimes and to advance cooperation in trade, investment, connectivity in addition to other areas. The Secretary-General said that the EU-China Summit is a key vehicle for bilateral relations and should be used effectively to make cooperation more productive.
