On 16 November, Ambassador Zhang Ming met with Mr. Olivier Guersent, Director-General for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union (DG FISMA). The two sides exchanged views on China-EU cooperation in the area of finance, among other issues.

Ambassador Zhang said that China-EU relations are in good shape, featuring intensive high-level exchanges and deepened cooperation in various fields. Stressing the importance of China and the EU in global financial stability given the sheer size of their economy, Ambassador Zhang said that China welcomes the participation of European financial institutions in the further opening of China’s financial sector, and expressed the hope that the EU continues its support to Chinese financial institutions operating in the EU. China and the EU could enhance cooperation in such areas as monetary policy, financial regulation and green finance. Ambassador Zhang also briefed DG Guersent on the state of Chinese economy and finance.

After briefing on the state of play of European economy and the Capital Market Union, DG Guersent spoke positively of China’s efforts to further open up the financial sector and to contribute to the improvement of global economic and financial governance. DG Guersent underlined the EU’s readiness to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with China in the field of finance.
