2022-12-14 15:00

On December 13, Ambassador Fu Cong met with Thierry Béchet, Chief of Protocol of the European External Action Service (EEAS) and presented the copy of his Letter of Credence.

Ambassador Fu said that it is a great honor to serve as the head of the Chinese Mission to the EU. China and the EU are two major forces upholding world peace, two big markets promoting shared development, and two great civilizations promoting human progress. Maintaining a positive momentum of bilateral cooperation in the principle of mutual benefit and win-win results serves the common desires of China and the EU and the wider international community. The 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China has charted a new course for China’s development in the future. China will stay committed to pursuing an independent foreign policy of peace, to its foreign policy goals of upholding world peace and promoting common development and to building a community with a shared future for mankind. Ambassador Fu noted that the talks between President Xi Jinping and President Charles Michel of the European Council early this month set a clear direction for the development of China-EU relations. China hopes that the EU could become an important partner in China’s pursuit of Chinese modernization and share the opportunities brought by China’s huge market and China’s efforts to advance institutional opening up and deepen international cooperation. Ambassador Fu also stated that he and the Chinese Mission to the EU stand ready to work with the EU side to follow through the important agreements reached by the two leaders, advance China-EU relations and foster friendship between the two peoples.

Béchet welcomed Ambassador Fu as he took up his new role and said that the EU attaches great importance to China-EU relations and speaks positively of President Michel’s visit to China. The Protocol Service of the EEAS is ready to work closely with the Chines Mission to the EU to provide facilitation and support for Ambassador Fu in performing his duties and jointly pursue new progress in EU-China relations.

Ambassador Fu Cong arrived in Brussels on December 10, 2022 to assume his new role as the head of the Chinese Mission to the EU.
