Ambassador Fu Cong Met Jöerg Wuttke, President of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China

On January 9, 2023, Ambassador Fu Cong met with the delegation led by Jöerg Wuttke, President of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China (European Chamber). They had candid and friendly exchanges of views on issues of shared interests. Mr. Peng Gang, Minister of the Chinese Mission to the EU was present.

Ambassador Fu said that the recent 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China delivers a clear message that China will maintain the continuity and stability of its internal and external policies. China will continue to develop the socialist market economy, promote high-standard opening up, and accelerate efforts to foster a new pattern of development, so as to advance high-quality development. The important talks between President Xi Jinping and President Michel set a clear direction for the development of China-EU relations. China will uphold the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership, and hopes that the EU could become an important partner in China’s pursuit of Chinese modernization and benefit from China’s huge market and efforts to advance institutional opening up and deepen international cooperation. China stands ready to build a more open, friendly, and promising business environment for all foreign-invested companies in China, including European companies.

Ambassador Fu noted that deepening win-win cooperation, which serves the interests of both China and the EU, is a shared call by business communities of the two sides. He recognized the positive contribution made by the European Chamber to China-EU practical cooperation and expressed the hope that it would continue to express objective and rational voices. China is prepared to work with the EU to foster an enabling business environment for businesses from both sides, keep industrial and supply chains stable and smooth, and jointly oppose decoupling and protectionism in the name of security.

President Wuttke welcomed Ambassador Fu for assuming the new role and said that the European Chamber has all along attached great importance to the Chinese market. He hoped that China would continue to expand opening up and create more favorable conditions for European companies in China.
