On October 5, 2023, Ambassador Fu Cong, Head of the Chinese Mission to the EU, met with Ambassador Thomas Oberreiter, Permanent Representative of Austria to the EU. They had an in-depth exchange of views on China-EU relations and other issues of mutual interest.

Ambassador Fu noted that Austria is an important member of the EU and that China values its relations with Austria and the EU. Since the end of 2022, dialogues between China and the EU in various areas have been resumed, and the preparation for a new round of China-EU Summit is also ongoing. China has all along seen the EU as a comprehensive strategic partner and stayed committed to opening up and cooperation to seek common development. He hoped that Austria will continue to play a constructive role in promoting the development of China-EU relations.

Ambassador Oberreiter said that Austria attaches great importance to developing relations with China. Austria is happy to see the resumption of China-Austria and China-EU dialogues and exchanges after the pandemic, and stands ready to maintain communication and exchanges with China.
