On March 7, 2024, Ambassador Fu Cong, Head of the Chinese Mission to the EU, met with Stefano Sannino, Secretary General of the European External Action Service.

Ambassador Fu firstly shared the guiding principles set out at this year’s “Two Sessions”. He noted that Premier Li Qiang, when delivering the Report on the Work of the Government, sent an important message that China will pursue higher-standard opening up and promote mutual benefits. Additionally, Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced at the press conference held on the margins of the “Two Sessions” the practical measures to facilitate cross-border travels. He also stressed that in the context of China-EU relations, the two sides should be characterized rightly as partners, and that cooperation should be the defining feature of the relationship, autonomy its key value, and win-win its future. The China-EU relationship currently enjoys a stable and upward momentum. The two sides are actively implementing the outcomes of the 24th China-EU Summit held at the end of 2023. China stands ready to work with the EU to pursue deeper political mutual trust, launch more dialogues and cooperation, and overcome various obstacles, so as to take bilateral relations to a new level.

Ambassador Fu and Mr. Sannino also had in-depth exchanges of views on international and regional issues of mutual interest.
