Spokesperson of the Mission to the EU Speaks on a Question Concerning NATO’s China-related Remarks
2024-10-02 17:03

Q: On October 1, NATO claimed that China has become “a decisive enabler of Russia’s war in Ukraine” and NATO thus needs to strengthen ties with “Indo-Pacific” partners. What is China’s comment on this?

A: The Chinese side has noticed the relevant remarks by NATO. China’s position on the Ukraine crisis is open and aboveboard. We have always been committed to pursuing political settlement and promoting talks for peace. Not long ago, China, Brazil and other Global South countries set up the “Friends for Peace” Group on the Ukraine crisis in the United Nations as part of their efforts to accumulate conditions and create an atmosphere for a ceasefire, an end to hostilities and the resumption of peace talks. China’s objective and impartial stance, as well as its constructive role, have been widely recognized by the international community. I would like to emphasize that when it comes to the Ukraine crisis, blaming others and forming exclusive blocs will not help resolve the issue. The Chinese side urges NATO to abandon Cold War mentality, correct its wrong perceptions on China, stop interfering in Asia-Pacific affairs, and do more to contribute to global peace and stability, rather than the opposite.
