On March 22, 2023, Ambassador Fu Cong met with Michael Keating, Executive Director of the European Institute of Peace (EIP) at the Chinese Mission to the EU. The had in-depth exchanges of views on the international security situation and regional hotspot issues.
Ambassador Fu stated that as a builder and defender of world peace, China always supports resolving regional conflicts through consultation and negotiation within the framework of the United Nations. Following President Xi Jinping’s proposal of Global Security Initiative in 2022, China released the Global Security Initiative Concept Paper and China’s Position on the Political Settlement of the Ukraine Crisis in February 2023. These initiatives set the direction and pathways for settling international security issues and building a world of lasting peace. China is ready to strengthen communication with other parties including the EIP, and make joint efforts to promote peaceful settlement of regional conflicts and advance the peace process.
Executive Director Keating congratulated Ambassador Fu for assuming the new role and appreciated China’s contribution to maintaining world peace and stability. The EIP pays particular attention to the development of EU-China relations, attaches importance to China’s position on global security and the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis, and stands ready to deepen exchanges and cooperation with China.
They also exchanged views on such issues as the Ukraine crisis, China-EU relations, and China-US relations.
