On November 14, 2024, Ambassador Cai Run, new Head of the Chinese Mission to the European Union, presented his Letter of Credence to President of the European Council Charles Michel.

Ambassador Cai first conveyed President Xi Jinping’s kind regards and best wishes to President Michel, who also expressed his appreciation and asked Ambassador Cai to convey his sincere greetings and best wishes to President Xi.

Ambassador Cai emphasized that President Xi Jinping had multiple in-depth exchanges with President Michel and other European leaders and reached important consensus on the growth of China-EU relations, which has set the direction and provided strategic guidance for this relationship. China always views its relations with the EU from a strategic and long-term perspective, and regards Europe as an important direction in China’s major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics and an important partner in China’s pursuit of Chinese modernization. There are no fundamental conflicts of interests between China and the EU. Instead, there are far more areas of consensus and cooperation than disagreements and competition. China and the EU are partners rather than rivals. Next year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of China-EU diplomatic relations. China stands ready to work with the EU to seize opportunities for cooperation and properly handle differences and disagreements, so as to promote the sound and stable development of this relationship, deliver benefits to people of both sides, and bring more stability, certainty and positive energy into this changing and turbulent world.

President Michel welcomed Ambassador Cai for assuming the new role and said that the EU attaches great importance to relations with China. The EU hopes to work with China to strengthen dialogue and communication, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, uphold multilateralism and jointly meet global challenges.

Ambassador Cai arrived in Brussels on September 27 to assume his new role and presented the copy of Letter of Credence on September 30.
