On January 26, 2023, Ambassador Fu Cong, Head of the Chinese Mission to the EU, presented his Letter of Credence to President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
Ambassador Fu conveyed President Xi Jinping’s warm regards to President von der Leyen and said that the most important message from the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China is the continuity and stability of China’s internal and external policies, which provides a solid foundation and an overall framework for China’s policy on the EU. He stressed that China attaches great importance to the relationship with the EU. Friendship remains the underlying theme of China’s policy on the EU, and cooperation the overarching goal. China and the EU are two major forces upholding world peace, two big markets promoting shared development, and two great civilizations promoting human progress. The increasingly complex international landscape has further highlighted the significance of this relationship. China stands ready to work with the EU side to maintain high-level exchanges, resume and promote dialogue and cooperation in various sectors. Ambassador Fu expressed the readiness of him and the Chinese Mission to join hands with the European Commission and other EU bodies in pursuing new progress in China-EU relations.
President von der Leyen expressed appreciation to President Xi Jinping for his regards and welcomed Ambassador Fu for assuming the new role. She noted that the EU values the important role of China and attaches importance to developing China-EU relations. The EU is willing to maintain high-level exchanges with China and advance the dialogue and cooperation in various sectors. She also stated that she looks forward to visiting China in due course and the European Commission is ready to provide facilitation for Ambassador Fu in performing his duties.
Ambassador Fu Cong arrived in Brussels on December 10, 2022 to assume his new role as the head of the Chinese Mission to the EU and presented his Letter of Credence to President of the European Council Charles Michel on December 16.
