On March 6, 2023, Ambassador Fu Cong, Head of the Chinese Mission to the EU, met Bálint Ódor, Permanent Representative of Hungary to the EU. They had exchanges of views on China-EU relations and issues of shared interest.

Ambassador Fu said that Hungary is a good friend of China in Europe, and China attaches great importance to developing China-Hungary relations. High-level exchanges between the two sides have injected impetus into the development of China-Hungary relations in the future. China and the EU are two major forces, two big markets and two great civilizations in the world. China always believes that friendship remains the underlying theme of China’s policy on the EU, and cooperation the overarching goal. China stands ready to work with Hungary to enhance dialogue and cooperation and promote the development of China-Hungary and China-EU relations amid a complex and fluid international landscape.

Ambassador Fu briefed the Hungarian side on China’s Position on the Political Settlement of the Ukraine Crisis, noting that China has always upheld an objective and impartial position on the Ukraine issue and actively supports peace talks, and expressed appreciation for Prime Minister Orbán's support for China’s position paper. China is ready to work with the international community, including Hungary, to contribute to the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis.

Ambassador Ódor congratulated Ambassador Fu for assuming the new role. He noted that China is an important trade and investment partner of Hungary and the EU. Hungary attaches importance to developing relations with China and stands ready to work with China to develop China-Hungary relations and China-EU relations. Hungary takes seriously China’s role in maintaining global security, and is willing to work with China to promote the de-escalation of the situation in Ukraine and strive for the early realization of peace.
