Minister Zhu Jing of the Chinese Mission to the EU recently attended the European session of the World Young Scientist Summit 2024 (WYSS 2024) in Brussels and delivered a speech.
In his speech, Minister Zhu appreciated young scientists for their wisdom and creativity in driving scientific and technological advancement in human history. He noted that the Chinese government has always attached great importance to the role of young scientists and highlighted its commitment to fostering a supportive environment for young scientists through policy measures. He also commended the significant contributions young scientists have made to both China’s and global scientific and technological progress
Minister Zhu pointed out that in the nearly 50 years since China and the EU established diplomatic relations, the bilateral scientific and technological cooperation has flourished. This fruitful partnership has contributed not only to the advancement and prosperity of both sides but also to finding solutions to global challenges.
Minister Zhu underscored the collective responsibility of humankind to secure a sustainable future and highlighted the crucial role of young scientists in this endeavour. He proposed that the scientific communities of China and Europe forge a long-term strategic partnership, dismantle barriers to collaboration, intensify exchanges and cooperation, join hands to promote innovation in key areas, and enhance cooperation in policy making. He also encouraged young scientists to embrace new perspectives and innovative thinking, and work together to addressing global challenges facing sustainability.
The WWSS is sponsored by the China Association for Science and Technology and the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province. The European session of WWSS 2024 was organized by the summit secretariat and the Association of Chinese-European Innovation and Entrepreneurship (ACEIE) in collaboration with numerous international organizations, professional associations, and renowned universities, with the support the Chinese Mission to the EU and the Chinese Embassy in Belgium. Fei Shengchao, Chinese Ambassador to Belgium, attended the session’s closing ceremony and delivered a speech. The event featuring a variety of activities such as the opening ceremony, technical roadshows, themed forums, and roundtables attracted nearly 200 attendees from across Europe, including distinguished scholars, entrepreneurs, representatives of international organizations, and Chinese professionals based in Belgium and other European countries.
