Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao made the written statement of his visit to the EU headquarters at the airport when he arrived in Brussels for a two-day official visit to Belgium and the EU headquarters. The full content of the statement is as follows:

I am delighted to pay the first official visit to the EU Headquarters at the invitation of President Romano Prodi of the European Commission.  Here, I would like to express, on behalf of the Chinese Government and people, the cordial greetings and best wishes to all the countries and citizens of the European Union.

L
ocated at two ends of the Eurasia continent, China and Europe both have a long history and a splendid culture, and are at a vital stage of development.  Both China and the EU are significant forces dedicated to world peace and common development.  To further expand and deepen the cooperation in all fields and build comprehensive strategic partnership for the new century not only serves the fundamental interests of the two sides but also contributes to world peace, stability and development.  I am looking forward to an in-depth exchange of views with EU leaders on China-EU relations and international and regional issues of mutual interest.

I hope and believe that the visit will help enhance mutual understanding, expand consensus and further cooperation between China and the EU and inject vigor and vitality into China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership.
