EU High Representative for the CFSP Javier SOLANA conveys his condolences following the earthquake in China

On 13 May 2008, Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), sent the following message of condolences to the Chinese authorities following the devastating earthquake:

"I have just learned about the devastating earthquake that struck China, notably Sichuan province, and took the life of many thousands of Chinese citizens.

On behalf of the European Union, I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the families of the victims and the government of China. I know that the Chinese authorities will do their utmost to provide rapid relief to the victims of this disaster. Allow me nevertheless to underline the European Union's readiness to assist."
