The Foreign Ministry Launches the Foreign-related Affairs Emergency Mechanism in Response to the Earthquake Hitting Sichuan

A major earthquake measuring 7.8 Richter scale jolted Wenchuan County of Sichuan province on May 12, 2008, causing serious injuries and losses of life and property. The foreign ministry immediately launched the foreign-related affairs emergency mechanism after the disaster and informed the embassies of related countries in China about its 24-hour contact phone number in order to handle any foreign-related affairs in a timely manner.
