Foreign Governments and Leaders Extend Condolence to the Chinese Government on the Earthquake Disaster in Sichuan (II)

On May 13, 2008, a number of foreign governments and leaders sent letters to President Hu Jintao, Premier Wen Jiabao or issued statements on the earthquake disaster in Wenchuan county of Sichuan province, extending condolence to the victims of the earthquake, sympathy to the families of the victims and the injured and expressed support for the disaster relief efforts of the Chinese government and people.

King of Jordan Abdullah Ⅱ expressed the deepest condolence to the victims, the most sincere sympathy to the families of the victims and the best wishes to the Chinese people to recover from the disaster.

Pakistani President Musharraf and Prime Minister Gilani expressed confidence that the indomitable Chinese people would surely be able to rebuild their home at the earliest date possible and said that the Pakistani people would extend full support to the great Chinese people.

Italian President Napolitano and Prime Minister Berlusconi said that Italy and China enjoy traditional friendship and at this grieved moment the Italian people stand close to the Chinese people and the Italian government is ready to provide assistance and support for disaster relief.

Polish President Kaczynski, on behalf of the Polish people and in his own name, extended sincere condolence to the families of the victims and the best wishes to the injured to recover as soon as possible.

Brazilian President Lula expressed deep grief over the damage caused by the earthquake, condolence to the victims and sympathy to the injured and loss of property.

Mexican President Calderon indicated confidence that under the strong leadership of the Chinese government the people in the disaster-hit regions would be able to rebuild their home at the earliest date possible and the Mexican government is ready to provide disaster relief assistance.

On the same day, Japanese State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Masahiko Komura, Bhutanese Foreign Minister Tshering, Italian Foreign Minister Frattini, Argentine Foreign Minister Tatyana and the Colombian foreign ministry also extended condolence to the Chinese government.
