We will continue to introduce to you the first batch of 100 Chinese GIs and 100 European GIs under the Agreement, to better protect and market them to meet the needs of consumers on both sides for a better life.

GI Episode 2: Gougunao Tea

Gougunao Tea is a green tea and has more than 200 years of history. It is produced in Gougunao Mountain, Suichuan county, Ji'an city of Jiangxi province. This mountain got its name from its shape, which looks like a dog's head, and thus the tea produced here is named Gougutao Tea.

Located at the eastern foot of the southern section of the Luoxiao Mountains, the production area of Gougunao Tea has the "golden latitude" and altitude suitable for tea production. Blessed with forest coverage rate of 79.8% and a humid subtropical monsoon climate, this area boasts mild climate all year round. Sufficient sunshine and abundant precipitation, large temperature difference between day and night and fertile soil facilitate the accumulation of aromatic substances and minor elements in tea.

Generations of tea farmers in Suichuan have found unique processing techniques. By fixing twice and twisting twice tea leaves, the tea enjoys tight leaves, verdant color, elegant aroma, bright color and sweet taste. The ratio of amino acid to tea polyphenol in Gougunao tea is 1:5, making it unique among similar products.

Su Shi, a well-known writer in the Northern Song Dynasty, once stopped in Suichuan on his way to the south, and found comfort and pleasure in the tea there. Today, local tea farmers grow Gougunao tea on the foot of the Luoxiao Mountain. They have transformed clean rivers and lush mountains into mountains of gold and silver, turning a new page in local rural development.
