On forced abortion
2014-08-27 03:49

Q4: There have been media reports on forced abortion in some parts of China. What is your comment on this?

A4: The Chinese government firmly opposes any form of compulsion in the implementation of family planning policies. Family planning departments and staff members at all levels are closely regulated and it is strictly forbidden to violate the lawful rights and interests of any person.

Our policy guidelines prioritise education and contraception. This approach is designed to provide regular, proactive and timely services in order to facilitate family planning, improve health and meet the needs of people in their childbearing age. The government prioritises the strict implementation of surgical regulations, the enhancement of service awareness amongst staff, and the improvement of the quality of service in order to further protect and promote the reproductive and health rights of our citizens. Abortion at a late stage of pregnancy is also strictly forbidden.
