One priority of China-EU research and development (R&D) cooperation is in the field of green aviation technology. Under the EU Science and Technology Cooperation Framework Agreement, the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, together with the Commission’s Directorate General for Research and Innovation, launched two aviation R&D cooperation projects: ‘Casting of Large Ti Structures’, (COLTS) and ‘Manipulation of Reynolds Stress for Separation Control and Drag Reduction’ (MARS). Through public bidding, joint China-EU evaluation and co-funding, scientific associations from China and the EU are sponsored to conduct research and cooperation aviation abating technologies, drag reduction technology, noise reduction technology, green materials and high-performance computing; their research is delivering promising results, and is translating into orders from Airbus and China Commercial Aircraft (COMAC).
