A: China is strongly dissatisfied with and firmly opposed to the EU's statement. In a society governed by the rule of law, it is a fundamental principle that laws must be followed and that those who violate them must be held accountable. The Macao SAR government punishes acts of collusion with foreign hostile forces and endangering national security in accordance with the National Security Law. This is legally justified, reasonable, consistent with international law and common international practices, and beyond reproach. Macao affairs are purely China’s internal affairs and brook no interference from any external forces. The EU has no right to make irresponsible comments. We urge the EU to abide by international law and basic norms governing international relations, to respect China’s sovereignty and Macao’s rule of law, and to immediately stop interfering in Macao affairs and China’s internal matters.
