Ambassador Fu Cong Met with Frans Timmermans, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission

On June 6, 2023, Ambassador Fu Cong, Head of the Chinese Mission to the EU, met with Frans Timmermans, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission. They had positive and friendly exchanges of views on China-EU green cooperation and other issues.

Ambassador Fu emphasized the importance of China-EU relations, and stated that the cooperation between the two sides carries significant implications to the world. Green cooperation is an important theme in China-EU relations. With shared goals and interest in green transition, the two sides identify great potential for green cooperation. China and EU should work together, ensure stable and consistent green policies, strengthen policy communication and alignment and uphold the foundation of mutual trust for deeper green cooperation. They should also continue to deepen practical cooperation in the green sector, promote the development of China-EU relations and lead in addressing global challenges such as climate change. China welcomes Mr. Timmermans’ recent visit to China for the High-level Environment and Climate Dialogue.

Mr. Timmermans agreed that green is the color of EU-China cooperation and acknowledged China’s indispensable role in addressing climate change and other global challenges. He looked forward to visiting China and expressed his willingness to enhance communication and coordination with China, expand and strengthen practical cooperation in the green sector and jointly advance global environmental governance.

The two sides also exchanged views on the China-EU High-level Environment and Climate Dialogue, among other matters.
