On March 27, Ambassador Fu Cong, Head of the Chinese Mission to the EU, and his wife Huang Jun hosted a farewell reception, which was attended by nearly 400 guests, including officials from the European Commission and the European External Action Service, members of the European Parliament, diplomatic envoys to the EU, and people from the political, business, academic, and media communities.
In his farewell address, Ambassador Fu recalled the days he worked at the EU and expressed his gratitude to all who supported him and the Mission’s work. Ambassador Fu said that ten years ago, President Xi Jinping proposed the idea of building a bridge of peace and cooperation across the Eurasian continent during the visit to the EU. It was guided by this vision that the two sides have built many bridges of understanding and mutual trust, win-win cooperation and close exchanges.
Next year will be the 50th anniversary of the establishment of China-EU diplomatic relations. It is important for both sides to maintain the positive momentum and build more roads and bridges. China stands ready to work with the EU to build more bridges of friendship and cooperation, and usher in an even brighter future for the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership.
Ambassador Fu highlighted that the fundamentals sustaining China’s growth in the long run have not changed, and China will continue driving global economy upward and offering more opportunities to European partners. By aligning development strategies and promoting complementarities, China and the EU will be able to unlock opportunities for mutual benefits and achieve common development.
Ambassador Fu concluded by expressing his consistent commitment to advocating and serving as a bridge for China-EU partnership, regardless of his future position. He then proposed a toast to the strength of the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership and to the lasting friendship between the people of China and the EU.
Guests applauded Ambassador Fu for his contribution to closer EU-China exchanges and cooperation, and the development of bilateral relations during his tenure. They also stated readiness to continue to promote the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership.
